Aging is associated with a progressive decline in physical andcognitive functions. The impact of age-dependent endocrine changesregulated by the central nervous system on the dynamics of neuronalbehavior, neurodegeneration, cognition, biological rhythms,sexual behavior, and metabolism are reviewed. We also brieflyreview how functional deficits associated with increases inglucocorticoids and cytokines and declining production of sexsteroids, GH, and IGF are likely exacerbated by age-dependentmolecular misreading and alterations in components of signaltransduction pathways and transcription factors.
